Post and Telephone
The post office (ELTA) handles letters, stamps, parcels, currency exchange, faxes but not telephone calls. You can buy stamps and postcards at news kiosks and souvenir shops, too.
The Greek Telecommunications Organization (OTE) has issued telephone cards for phone booths as well as discount calling cards, which can be used from any touch-tone telephone. To call from Greece abroad dial 00, then the country code, the area code and the subscribers number. The transition to digital system has involved major changes in phone numbers in Greece: what was 0 in a city code before (e.g. for Athens 010 or 01 even longer before), has now become 2 (210 for Athens), the first 0 in mobile phone numbers has been replaced by 6. |
