Banks, offices and shops are closed on the following national holidays.

15 August Assumption Day
28 October Ochi (No) Day
25 December Christmas Day
26 December St.Stephens Day
In addition to these holidays there are ones the exact date of which changes, such as the first day of Lent, Good Friday, and Easter Monday. Apart from these, islands and towns celebrate the feast days of their local patron saints. These dates are calculated according to the Orthodox calendar, and often differ from those in Catholic and Protestant countries. In Greece, Easter is a much more important holiday than Christmas.
